Why are UK lottery jackpots usually rather low?
Well, because of the simple fact that the jackpot for the UK lottery can only be rolled over 5 times. After that, the jackpot can be won by just having 5 out of six numbers on your lotto ticket. Considering this rule, it would make sense to play this lottery every time the jackpot has not been won five times in a row. At that point, you get much better odds of winning the top prize. That top prize should be large enough to put you in a position where you do not have to worry about money for the rest of your life.
There is a good chance though that after five rollovers, the jackpot may have to be split between multiple winners. With the lower odds, and more people playing, there may be more than one winner for the second prize tier.
Don’t want to split the jackpot?
There is one lottery strategy to avoid splitting the top prize: pick a combination of numbers that seems less likely to be picked by other players as well. For example, use fewer numbers between 1 and 31 (there are too many players using birthdates as their lucky numbers), or use 3 numbers between 30 and 40 and three numbers between 50 and 56. Use your imagination to come up with more “odd” numbers.
